Ask it like you would ask the shop.

“Which tour is right for a family of five in February?” “What do I wear at 10,000 feet?” “Is Mosquito Pass open in June?” It knows the prices, the months, the age rules and the gear lists, and it says so when it does not know.

Month, group, experience: out comes the day.

Every tour scored against your answers, a day plan built from real tour lengths and the town, a budget from the published starting rates, a packing list, and a booking request with the plan already written.

Altitude

Two miles up before the ride starts.

Leadville is the highest incorporated city in the United States. The UTV tours climb from town toward Mosquito Pass; the sled tours run on the plateau and the ranch above it. The air holds roughly a third less oxygen than sea level, the sun is stronger, the humidity is low. None of it stops you riding; a little planning makes the day better.

  • Drink more water than feels necessary, starting the day before.
  • Go easy on alcohol the first night.
  • Sunscreen and sunglasses every day; the sun at 10,000 feet is stronger than it looks.
  • If you are coming from sea level and can arrive a day early, do.

Why people come back

The guide knows the mine you are parked next to.

Every tour leaves with an experienced guide who rides this country all year and can tell you which silver mine built which brick building on Harrison Avenue. Groups stay small. Machines get replaced every year. And the routes mix public land with a private 1,000-acre ranch, so you are not queueing behind a rental convoy.

Guests mention the same names in their reviews: Blake, Cody, Zach, Todd, and Jason, who answers the phone.

The shop

Full-line service and repair, in Leadville.

Most powersports shops are an hour or more down the valley. This one is on East 9th Street, run by people who keep a fleet of sleds, RZRs and KTMs working through Leadville winters. Bring your snowmobile, UTV, ATV or dirt bike in for maintenance, diagnostics or repair, whether or not you have ever ridden with them.

Questions people ask before they book

What is there to do in Leadville, Colorado?

Leadville is a year-round base for the high country. In winter the big draw is snowmobiling on groomed trails and backcountry powder around Turquoise Lake and the private ranch outside town. In summer it is UTV tours through the historic mining district and up toward Mosquito Pass, dirt bike single track, hiking Mount Elbert and Mount Massive, and fishing Turquoise Lake and Twin Lakes. Leadville Offroad Adventures runs the guided snowmobile, UTV and dirt bike tours from 141 E 9th Street downtown.

Where can I book a snowmobile, UTV or dirt bike tour in Leadville?

Call Leadville Offroad Adventures at (970) 930-7027 or send a request from the contact page. Snowmobile tours start at $295, UTV tours at $450 per 4-seat machine, and dirt bike tours at $399. Tours leave from the shop at 141 E 9th St, Leadville, CO 80461.

Who repairs snowmobiles, UTVs, ATVs and dirt bikes in Leadville?

Leadville Offroad Adventures runs a full-line motorsports service and repair shop at 141 E 9th Street in Leadville for snowmobiles, UTVs and side-by-sides, ATVs, dirt bikes and other off-road equipment. Call (970) 930-7027 for a quote.

Is Leadville Offroad Adventures the same company as Elk Mountain Adventures?

Yes. Elk Mountain Adventures, LLC has run tours out of Leadville since 2015 and now operates as Leadville Offroad Adventures. Same owner, same guides, same shop on East 9th Street. Sledville and leadvilleoffroad.com are both the outfit's own sites; book by phone or the request form on either.

Do I need experience to take a tour?

Not for the snowmobile trail tour or the UTV tours. Guides cover the machine and the route before you leave, and you can ride double or ride along with the guide. The High Adventure snowmobile tour and the dirt bike tours are for riders with experience. Snowmobile drivers must be at least 15.

How far is Leadville from Vail, Breckenridge and Denver?

Leadville is about 25 minutes from Copper Mountain, about an hour from Vail and from Breckenridge, and about two hours from Denver. In summer, Aspen is about an hour and a half over Independence Pass.
